Book Club

As lovers of words, most of us at TJ are serious readers. So Emily started a voluntary Book Club to discuss books that we mutually select to read. Sometimes the discussions are facilitated by an outside expert, as with Susan Annunzio and Now Discover Your Strengths. But most are simply fun get-togethers where we have lunch and exchange insights and opinions.

Now, Discover Your Strength, Buckingham and Clifton | After reading this book, we all took the on-line survey to learn our top strengths.  Then Susan Annunzio, CEO of the Center for High Performance, and a globally recognized expert on corporate performance and leadership, facilitated a dynamic discussion to analyze our strengths as individuals and as a high-performance team.

Hey, Whipple, Squeeze This!, Luke Sullivan | An all around fun read on branding and creating great advertising.

The Tipping Point | Great book about how an idea or trend can spread like an epidemic and become a world class brand.

Good to Great, Jim Collins | This book’s message was so powerful to us that, after reading it in 2003, we restructured our company’s business model.  A must read for any business owner or manager.

Eats, Shoots & Leaves, Laura Truss | Ms. Truss discusses punctuation in a very dry, British manner. Not our favorite Book Club selection.

A New Brand World, Scott Bedbury and Stephen Fenichell | Another must read for anyone passionate about branding.  This has become an important and much used reference book for all of us.

The Fall of Advertising, Al and Laura Ries | Taylor Johnson & Olesker knows the power and value of PR, but this father/daughter team validates it in this best selling marketing book.  If you work with a public relations firm or are in the profession, this book is a staple for your book shelf.
