CRE Tech: How Drones Are Rising To The Occasion

September 12, 2019

Drones have been flying high in commercial real estate — in both form and function — and no project better illustrates this trend than Taylor Johnson client Fulton East, a new modern 12-story, 90,000-square-foot office and retail building rising at 215 N. Peoria St. in Chicago’s Fulton Market District. As reported in Bisnow, developers Bob Wislow and Camille Julmy wanted to go above and beyond the traditional groundbreaking. So, they worked with TJ’s event planning team to use drones for a “groundraising” where four drones rose to the future height of the building to help guests visualize the project, as well as add a high-tech vibe that was perfect for an innovation hub like Fulton Market. Clayco, which is leading the design-build effort for Fulton East, will also incorporate drones in monitoring construction progress ahead of its completion next spring. Fulton East’s developers incorporated drones to celebrate the start of construction at an event in late June, and drones will be used to monitor its construction.
