Older Buildings Get New Life As Senior Communities

The demand for senior housing has breathed new life into existing properties whose square footage, design details and grounds make for distinctive senior living communities. When the Chicago Tribune was seeking examples of these adaptive reuse properties, we pointed them to Taylor Johnson clients Evergreen Real Estate Group and The Grand at Twin Lakes. With Aurora St. Charles Senior Living in west suburban Aurora, Ill., Evergreen transformed the Old St. Charles Hospital, a building on the National Register of Historic Places, into a senior community that retains the charm and ornate features of the Art Deco design. At The Grand at Twin Lakes in northwest suburban Palatine, Ill., seniors enjoy resort-style living in a former hotel that offers spacious apartments, expansive amenity spaces — courtesy of the building’s original footprint — and the grounds and programming of adjacent Twin Lakes Golf Course & Recreation Area. Read more here.
