For downtown renters, there’s never been a better time to snag a deal on a new apartment as COVID-19 continues to influence where and how people live – at least temporarily. According to Taylor Johnson client Downtown Apartment Company (DAC), incentives offered by downtown landlords run the gamut from months of free rent, parking and cleaning services, to gift cards and reimbursed moving expenses. Many buildings are even offering non-cash perks, such as waiving no-pet policies. How long will the bargains last? When Crain’s reporter Alby Gallun looked to answer the question, we connected him with Ericka Rios, co-founder and director of leasing of DAC, for insights and examples. Crain’s also spoke with a renter at Aspire Residences, developed by TJ client Draper and Kramer, Incorporated, who said the concessions were enough to shift his apartment search from the suburbs to the city. In addition to facilitating the Crain’s interview, TJ also recently connected DAC with Apartment Therapy for a similar story about unprecedented renter perks across the country.
