CHICAGO (Sept. 10, 2018) — M/I Homes is helping Chicago-area buyers make their dreams of homeownership a reality this fall with its annual Dream Big nationwide sales event, taking place at the builder’s local communities for a limited time beginning Saturday, Sept. 15.
“Whether they’re purchasing their first home or choosing the next place for their family to live, buyers always have big dreams about homeownership,” said Curt VanHyfte, area president of M/I Homes. “As we head into the fall real estate market, our Dream Big nationwide sales event and the special offers it includes make it easier than ever for our buyers to realize those dreams. It’s a great reason to check out our Chicago-area communities and decide now is the right time to buy.”
VanHyfte noted the Dream Big sales event encompasses all 21 of M/I Homes’ active townhome and single-family home communities in the Chicago area. “We pride ourselves on building quality homes across some of Chicago’s most desirable suburbs, from Shorewood to Barrington,” he said. “From townhomes in convenient locations to large single-family homes for growing families, we have a lot of terrific options for buyers.”
During the Dream Big sales event, M/I Homes is including a variety of free features with the purchase of every townhome and single-family home. Available Dream Big selections vary by community, but can include items such as a dream kitchen package with an island, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances including a French door refrigerator, and hardwood flooring in select areas.
Throughout the Dream Big event, M/I Homes will also be offering a below-market interest rate and paying various amounts of closing costs – up to $5,000 – for qualifying homes and buyers when they use M/I Financial, a subsidiary of M/I Homes that offers financial services and mortgage programs.
“Closing costs can be a hurdle, particularly for first-time buyers, so we’re making it easier for buyers to enter the market by assisting with that expense,” said Cheryl Bonk, vice president of sales and marketing for M/I Homes. “For some buyers, this may even free up their budget so they can choose additional options and upgrades.”

Homes at all M/I Homes communities come standard with the builder’s industry-leading 15-Year Transferable Structural Warranty, which not only allows buyers to purchase with confidence, but also adds value if the home is sold in the future. All homes are also WHOLE HOME Certified, an M/I Homes designation indicating the builder’s superior approach when constructing homes. Upon testing, an M/I home will receive a more favorable HERS (Home Energy Rating System) score than an Energy Star-certified home, which can save buyers upwards of 30 percent on their energy bills. A lower HERS Index means lower energy costs, and on average an M/I home achieves a HERS rating of 62, considerably lower than other resale homes and other builders in the market.
