While the government is currently open for business, the recent shutdown put a strain on affordable housing communities with expiring project-based Section 8 contracts. Without reimbursements from HUD, some owners were forced to dip into reserve funds set aside for capital improvements, with fears a prolonged standoff in Washington could ultimately lead to evictions.
