Last week, the Lucien Lagrange Studio team gathered to celebrate the 80th birthday of noted architect Lucien Lagrange, the Chicago-based firm’s founding principal. Active in the industry for more than five decades, Lagrange today leads Lucien Lagrange Studio together with long-time collaborators and industry veterans Alfredo Marr, managing principal, and My-Nga Lam, design principal, who established the firm with him in 2016.

“Like many who have had the opportunity to work alongside Lucien throughout his acclaimed career, My-Nga and I have tremendous gratitude for the influence he has had on us as professionals as well as the industry as a whole,” said Marr. “This milestone birthday is a time to honor not only his impressive tenure as a leader in our field, but also the tenacity and talent through which he has made his mark on cities and articulated a beloved style that is the foundation of our firm’s work. We look forward to partnering with him on enduring designs in Chicago and throughout the world for many years to come.”

Lagrange was honored during the celebration with a video featuring archival photos and a compilation of birthday wishes from colleagues and clients past and present.

“A common theme running through the comments in the video is appreciation for Lucien’s refined design aesthetic, his commitment to quality and excellence, and for the relationships he’s forged with those he’s worked with over the years,” said Lam. “Those same qualities have always been the foundation of Lucien Lagrange Studio, and continue to shape the work the firm is doing today.”

Best known for luxury residential and hospitality projects, Lagrange’s legacy in Chicago includes iconic buildings such as Park Tower, Erie on the Park, Lincoln Park 2550 and the Waldorf Astoria Chicago. His current work through Lucien Lagrange Studio spans the Chicago area and includes 8000 North, a high-end apartment property in Skokie; 40 West Oak, a luxury condominium building under development in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood; and The Butler, an upscale condominium community in Oak Brook that is currently in pre-sales.

The firm is also active nationally and internationally, with current work including the Mansard Hotel, a luxury hospitality development in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, and Pulelehua Residential, a master-planned residential community on Maui, Hawaii.
