Glenstar Properties, a national commercial real estate developer, owner and property manager, held a grand opening Wednesday, June 14, to celebrate its recently built private dog park at Schaumburg Corporate Center, 1475-1515 E. Woodfield Rd., Schaumburg, Ill. – the first amenity for office pups in the Suburban Chicago office market. Glenstar, owner of the three-building office complex, developed the park for dogs to play in when they’re not sitting beside their owners at their desks.

“Dogs at work can greatly benefit employees, from lowering stress to encouraging collaboration and boosting creativity,” said Michael Klein, principal of Glenstar Properties. “We wanted to go beyond just being a dog-friendly building, and this dog park is just one more attractive perk to officing at Schaumburg Corporate Center.”

Located just outside the 1 million-square-foot office complex at Meacham and Higgins roads, the 8,000-square-foot dog park offers a fenced-off area for canines to go off leash, socialize and enjoy outdoor activities during the workday. Play apparatuses for the dogs include a ramp leading to climbing platforms, a tunnel, hurdle, a replica of a fire hydrant, and swinging dog rope toys. And, for dog owners, there are two stations offering doggie waste bags and waste buckets. Three benches provide a spot for office workers to take a break as well.

During the dog park’s June 14 grand opening celebration, dogs climbed and played on the new equipment, including 12 dogs from Almost Home Foundation that are available for adoption or fostering. The event also featured Glenstar-distributed dog swag and treats, and area businesses raffled off prizes.

Adding a dog park is one of many enhancements Glenstar has made at Schaumburg Corporate Center to attract and retain tenants. In 2018, Glenstar completed a $30 million renovation that included creating a 17,000-square-foot glass and steel sunlit atrium that hosts live music once a week, offers abundant seating areas and houses four live trees.

“We’re committed to providing our tenants a pleasing environment they look forward to coming to,” said Sheree Worcester, Glenstar’s vice president and general manager at Schaumburg Corporate Center. “Dogs are good for people’s mental health, and the dog park is just one more place for building camaraderie and community.”

Since early 2020, Glenstar has completed 314,000 square feet of new leases and 260,000 square feet of renewals at Schaumburg Corporate Center.
