The low-residency model offers credit for existing professional designations, allowing students to earn their degree in as little as nine months

The Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate at Roosevelt University (MBIRE) today announced its accelerated master’s program, which will waive up to four of the 10 required courses for a master of science in real estate (MSRE) degree for students who hold select professional designations and/or industry experience. Those who receive credit for all four courses can complete the remaining six courses in just two semesters via virtual coursework and in-person classes held three weekends per semester.

“This accelerated MSRE degree program is a game changer for remote workers and out-of-state professionals as the format means students are required to attend in-person classes just three weekends per semester,” said Collete English Dixon, executive director of MBIRE. “We acknowledge the evolution of how people are working, and we created a program that adapts to these shifting dynamics without compromising on what we value to be important to the student experience.”

Real estate designations that qualify for academic credit include: Member, Appraisal Institute (MAI); Certified Assessment Evaluator (CAE); Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM); Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA); Member, Appraisal Institute of Canada (AACI); Member, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS); and Member, Canadian National Association of Real Estate Appraisers (CNAREA).

Traditionally, students at MBIRE attend graduate-level classes on campus two or three evenings per week while working full time, which typically requires up to four semesters to complete a master’s degree. MBIRE will continue this traditional format for its master’s degree program. However, for those who qualify, the new accelerated program could cut a real estate professional’s time toward a master’s degree significantly. Not only can enrolled students complete their MSRE degree within nine months, but they will also benefit from a flexible program that accommodates their schedules. Students must be on campus for only three weekends – once in August, October and December – which are identified beforehand so they have ample time to make travel arrangements.

“Working professionals have hectic and variable schedules, and this approach makes a master’s degree feel attainable to individuals who have been hesitant to begin this journey,” English Dixon said. “It’s a big reason why we decided to make most of the coursework virtual.

“Opening ourselves to a different type of cohort has also allowed MBIRE to take a look at our educational offerings with a more robust approach,” said English Dixon. “The accelerated master’s program furthers our goal to reach and support the next generation of real estate professionals in Chicago and across the country.”
