Taylor Johnson excels at getting our clients in front of the audiences they want to reach.
When architecture firm Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC) completed Embry, a 58-unit luxury condominium building in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, the PR goal was to put LJC’s work in front of developers to spur new business. While TJ knew we would be able to secure placements in top-notch outlets, LJC put Crain’s Chicago Business at the top of its media wish list.
Understanding Crain’s commercial real estate coverage tends to be more transaction driven and less on design intention, our team identified the link between LJC’s sophisticated vision for Embry and its 80% pre-sold status before first residents moved in. We worked hand-in-hand with LJC to successfully pitch an exclusive in-person tour of Embry to Crain’s that would not only highlight the property’s striking interior and exterior design, but also communicate how the architecture contributed to the project’s financial success.
The Crain’s piece, titled “An architect’s tour of the West Loop’s hottest condo building,” shadowed LJC’s Alan Barker as he provided an insider’s account of Embry’s distinctive design — from its richly detailed, bronze-colored exterior that adds layers of depth and texture, to the spacious, light-filled layouts of the residences themselves. More importantly, the article recognized LJC’s architectural contributions as a point of differentiation, a “signifier of luxury” that set Embry apart from the competition and helped drive its outstanding sales performance.
Within days of the story’s publication, LJC received inquiries from high-profile West Loop developers who had read the Crain’s piece and expressed interest in working with the firm to create similarly sophisticated and lucrative residential projects. The client couldn’t have been more pleased with the Crain’s coverage as well as TJ’s additional media outreach around the project, which resulted in placements in other high-profile outlets, including an in-depth Q&A with Barker in Mansion Global.
