Glenview, Illinois-based homebuilder and developer Edward R. James Companies announced it received two awards at the Homebuilders Association of Greater Chicago’s (HBAGC) Key Awards dinner on November 13. The firm was awarded a Gold Key Award for Best Overall Community in the category of Community Design and Planning for Hibbard Gardens, a recently completed community in Northfield, as well as a Gold Key Award for Excellence in New Construction for its custom home at 1425 Glenview Road in Glenview.

“We are honored to receive these awards, and we thank the Homebuilders Association of Greater Chicago for this recognition,” said Jerry S. James, president of Edward R. James Companies. “We’ve taken tremendous pride in building in North Shore communities for the past six decades, and this recognition simply furthers our commitment.”

A panel of jurors from the HBAGC toured and critiqued various communities throughout the Chicago metro area before presenting the Best Overall Community award to Hibbard Gardens. The community of six luxury single-family homes fills a 3.68-acre infill location at Hibbard and Winnetka roads, which formerly housed a nursery and gardening center. Many trees were preserved in the development of Hibbard Gardens, providing a wooded, relatively secluded community near downtown Winnetka and Kenilworth. Each home features first-floor master suites, New England Fieldstone, and stucco with a cedar shake roof.

“I am grateful for our team of talented professionals whose commitment to excellence helped transform Hibbard Road Gardens Nursery into a vibrant addition to the neighborhood, and to the entire Northfield community,” said James.

Edward R. James Companies also earned an Excellence in New Construction award for its luxury, custom home located at 1425 Glenview Road in Glenview. Built on a half-acre lot, it offers more than 6,450 square feet of finished space, five bedrooms, four full baths, two half baths, a three-car tandem garage, and a fenced-in backyard, all within a short walk to downtown Glenview and the Metra train station. The home’s exterior features a New England shake shingle style, with a blue-stone front porch. The interiors feature a 180-degree view of the wonderfully landscaped fenced-in back yard from the second-floor master suite, first-floor kitchen’s eat-in-area, as well as the basement.

The HBAGC also named the Village of Glenview “Village of the Year,” recognizing the cooperative working relationships between village staff, village review panels, and customers seeking planning advice and development permits. The HBAGC noted that Glenview’s same-day permit review process with prescriptive guidelines for developers is conducive to development, growth and community planning. “Edward R. James Companies is headquartered in Glenview, and has been building there for decades,” said James. “It’s one of the best places to build, live or visit in the entire greater Chicago area.”
