CA Ventures LLC and Pathway® Senior Living recently celebrated the grand opening of Travanse LivingTM at Grayslake, a 96-unit senior living community at 1865 E. Belvidere Road in Grayslake, Ill. Designed by Chicago-based Worn Jerabek Wiltse Architects, the $28 million development offers a mix of assisted living and memory care residences, including private and shared apartments, in a highly accessible location near the intersection of U.S. Highway 45 and Belvidere Road in the Route 120 corridor, which includes complementary uses such as medical facilities.

Developed by CA Ventures and operated by Pathway, Travanse Living at Grayslake offers a total of 68 assisted living residences, including 29 studios, 37 one-bedroom/one-bath units and two two-bedroom/one-bath units. In addition to large windows and individual heating/cooling controls, all assisted living suites include a kitchenette with granite countertops, subway tile backsplash and stainless steel refrigerator and microwave. Bathrooms feature roll-in showers and grab bars designed to maximize accessibility.

Indoor amenities in the assisted living portion of the community, located on the first and second floors of the community, include a two-story lobby with fireplace lounge, central dining room with adjacent outdoor dining area, private family dining room, and bistro with café seating. In addition, residents will have access to a large multi-purpose community room with display kitchen, entertainment system and views of the neighboring courtyard; library with lounge seating and fireplace; computer lab with printing capabilities; theater/seminar room; game room with pool table; salon; exercise room with workout equipment, massage rooms and space for group fitness and physical therapy; and wellness suite with exam and consultation rooms. Each floor will also include laundry facilities and additional lounge areas.

Outdoor amenities for assisted living residents include a wraparound porch for outdoor dining, walking paths around the front and rear of building, landscaped courtyard at the rear of the building, gazebo, and raised gardening beds for horticultural hobbyists.

Located on the third floor, the community’s 28 memory care units are composed of 20 studios and eight companion suites. Companion suites offer two separate bedrooms, two separate bathrooms with sink and toilet, and a shared shower. This arrangement allows for a more affordable memory care option versus a completely private unit. All memory care residences feature a direct line of sight from bed to toilet, separate dressing area and storage closets, and memory boxes at unit entries that serve as a cuing tool for residents.

The secured memory care floor is designed to operate as two households, each with its own dining room and country kitchen, activity area with resident laundry, living room with TV and lounge seating, and sunroom. The two households also share a fitness/activity room, family room with fireplace and seating area, salon, private family visiting lounge, and access to an exterior greenhouse and rooftop garden.

“The household concept will the enhance day-to-day lives of memory care residents while keeping them socially engaged and allowing them to maintain some independence,” said Dempsey. “The setting feels like home and provides peace of mind for both the resident and his or her family.”

The community is conveniently located 2 miles east of Northwestern Medicine Grayslake Outpatient Center, offering access to more than 60 physicians in 15 medical specialties. A complimentary shuttle will transport residents to the outpatient medical center as well as a variety of nearby shopping and dining destinations, including a Target store and the Gurnee Mills shopping center.

“With a shortage of quality senior housing in central Lake County, Travanse Living at Grayslake is an ideal option for area seniors that can no longer live alone but want to stay close to their adult children and grandchildren,” said Dempsey. “We’re excited to introduce residents to the level of service that already has made Travanse Living a trusted name in senior housing.”

Travanse Living at Grayslake is the second senior housing community delivered by CA Ventures.  In August, the developer opened Travanse Living at Olathe, a 132-unit assisted living and memory care community in Olathe, Kan., which is also operated by Pathway Senior Living. A third CA Senior Living community, Travanse Living at Wheaton, is currently under construction and slated for delivery in 2017. The company expects to open five additional senior living communities across the country by early 2018.
