In 2015, Marshall Field Garden Apartment Homes, located in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood, was on the verge of losing its affordable status.

That was until Taylor Johnson client Related Midwest, together with affiliate Related Affordable, acquired the 628-unit apartment community, embarking on a $175 million redevelopment that extended the affordability of the homes for another 30 years. As part of the project, Related retained local minority- and women-owned businesses, and established a community hiring program that created nearly 50 full- and part-time jobs for residents of the 27th Ward, including multiple union apprenticeships. Knowing Related’s investment in both Marshall Field and the surrounding community was made for TV, Taylor Johnson pitched it for NBC Chicago’s “Making a Difference.” Click here to view the full segment.
