JDL Development, one of Chicago’s premier residential high-rise developers, has announced pre-leasing is underway at SixForty, a new luxury residential and retail tower at 640 N. Wells St. in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. Tours of the lobby, select residential units and the fifth-floor amenity deck are now available. The first move-ins will be welcomed Saturday, July 1.

Designed by Chicago-based Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, SixForty will include a 23-story tower with 250 apartments and 8,000 square feet of street-level retail at the corner of Ontario and Wells streets. SixForty marks the second project for JDL Development and Chicago-based The Habitat Company, which will manage the property and oversee leasing. The two firms previously partnered on 1000 South Clark, which is currently 99 percent leased after opening in the South Loop last summer.

“Today’s luxury rental tenants want to be close to all the action, and you can’t be more at the epicenter of River North than SixForty,” said Yale Dieckmann, executive vice president and chief investment officer at JDL Development. “Because the building is in the heart of a fast-growing area for tech startups and a hotspot for shopping and entertainment, it’s attracting a variety of renters – from young professionals working in downtown office towers to entrepreneurs collaborating in creative shared workspaces.

Each home will feature 9-foot 6-inch ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, stone countertops, stainless steel appliances, plank flooring, walk-in showers with frameless glass surrounds, in-unit laundry, and balconies in select units. Rents range from $1,850 to $5,820.

Completion of the 23rd floor pool deck is slated for early September, and a grand opening party at the tower will be held in mid-September.
