Baird & Warner Honors Its History Supporting Housing Rights
This April marks the 50th anniversary of the federal Fair Housing Act, a special moment in history for Taylor Johnson client Baird & Warner. During the 1960s, many in real estate were hesitant to end racial discrimination in home sales. One exception was John Baird, the firm’s former president. Not only did Baird testify in support of fair housing before the city and state, but he also resigned from the Chicago Real Estate Board when it disagreed with his stance. Years later, Baird’s granddaughter Lucy was researching the firm’s history and discovered letters to Baird both supporting and criticizing his decision. In honor of the Fair Housing Act, we pitched and secured a WGN Radio interview with Lucy to discuss her research and why the law is just as relevant today.
