Many Taylor Johnson clients have a national scope, which means we often find ourselves engaged with local media in the hottest development markets across the country, wherever they may be. When Marquette Companies broke ground on The Sylvan, its new Texas community in The Woodlands, just outside of Houston, the ask of TJ was twofold: not only did Marquette want to raise its profile with local media, but company leadership also wanted greater visibility as a build-to-rent (BTR) developer.
Recognizing local reporters’ interest in development milestones, the TJ team first offered an exclusive to the Houston Chronicle to break news of The Sylvan. Once the story published, we shared a press release widely, resulting in numerous stories in both local media as well as regional and national trades, including placements in Houston Business Journal, Chron.com, The Woodlands Online, Community Impact News, Houston Agent Magazine, Texas Real Estate Business, Connect CRE Texas, MultifamilyBiz and The Real Deal, among others. (The fact that the coverage was seen by Marquette business partners who reached out to firm leadership with their congratulations was a much-appreciated bonus.)
Building on the success of the initial media blitz, TJ has continued to maintain visibility for The Sylvan, as well as Marquette’s thought leadership on the BTR sector, through targeted pitches and regular contact with key reporters, several of whom now consider Marquette a go-to source on the topic. Subsequent Sylvan and BTR coverage has included articles in the Houston Chronicle, The Real Deal, Forbes.com and Multi-Housing News, to name a few.
