High-End Developers Team Up On Affordable Townhomes In East Garfield Park
Chicago’s long-standing affordable housing shortage is going to require multiple approaches to solve. One tool is the Affordable Requirements Ordinance (ARO), which mandates residential developers bring new affordable housing to the city – either through fees or building units. When Taylor Johnson client Structured Development completed the first phase of Harrison Row Townhomes, its for-sale, family-sized townhomes in East Garfield Park built to fulfill its ARO obligation for Shops at Big Deahl, we knew media would be interested. Even more newsworthy was the fact that Structured was collaborating on the project with developer ZSD, which was also building the townhomes to fulfilling its ARO requirement from another project. The resulting coverage, including Crain’s Chicago Business, spotlighted this innovative approach to expanding homeownership.
