McHugh Construction’s Steve Wiley Offers A Preconstruction Boot Camp Close-Up On “The Weekly”

The preconstruction phase of a large construction project includes everything from conceptual planning to identifying potential subcontractors – and getting it right is integral to a project’s success.

Knowing preconstruction planning is more critical than ever during a pandemic, we recently pitched Taylor Johnson client James McHugh Construction Co. to Building Design + Construction (BD+C) to discuss how the firm works with owners and design teams to establish budgets, determine material quantities and detail a scope of work in today’s new normal. BD+C was so intrigued, it asked Steve Wiley, senior vice president of preconstruction at McHugh, to be a guest on its national show “The Weekly.” In the resulting episode, Wiley explains the journey from conceptual sketches to detailed 3D models and notes the multiple benefits of this process, including accurate cost estimates and the opportunity to mine for cost savings, especially in the structural and MEP systems that typically make up 50-70% of a project’s budget.
