Related Midwest Unveils Phase 1 Of The 78
Since Taylor Johnson client Related Midwest announced plans for The 78, a new riverfront neighborhood near the South Loop in downtown Chicago, media and community members alike have been abuzz about the developer’s plans to transform 62 acres of vacant land into a vibrant, mixed-use community. This week, Curt Bailey, president of Related Midwest, unveiled Phase 1 of The 78 at a standing-room-only press conference where Governor JB Pritzker, joined by Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot, announced funding for the University of Illinois System’s Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) to build its new state-of-the-art technology innovation hub at The 78. Phase 1 of The 78 will feature nearly 3 million square feet of office, residential, fitness, retail, dining and open space, as well as infrastructure improvements and DPI — a research and development institute that will be a focal point of the neighborhood’s inaugural chapter.
