CA Senior Living LLC, the senior housing investment and development division of Chicago-based CA Ventures, today announced it will expand its Anthology Senior Living operating platform to 18 of its communities, with a new centralized management team implementing best practices in resident care, technology applications and team member development.

The 18 communities – located primarily in the Midwest, including Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio, as well as Texas and Connecticut – include 12 senior living communities recently acquired from NorthPoint Development, one acquired from a joint venture between Greystar and The Carlyle Group, and five CA Senior Living communities currently under construction. Together, the properties offer a mix of independent living, assisted living and memory support residences.

“Centralizing, standardizing and optimizing operations through the Anthology platform will allow us to more directly effect change at the community level, to be nimble in a dynamic and competitive industry, and to create an environment where we can execute on forward-thinking strategies through training, programming, technology and a culture of excellence,” said Ben Burke, president of CA Senior Living. “Going forward, Anthology will operate most communities we develop because we’re already intimately familiar with the designs and markets and are invested in their long-term success.

“We have taken great care to develop our own elevated brand of service offerings that wholly consider the needs of each resident,” continued Burke. “The decisions we make as operator are guided by our mission of serving our community team members as well as the families who have entrusted us to provide an inspiring, safe and comfortable place to call home – one that serves both the seniors who live there and the family members who come to visit.”

Anthology promotes overall well-being for its residents through five branded programs:

  • Entice provides a true culinary experience elevated from dining programs of the past with interactive and personal dining experiences via chef-prepared meal options in bistro, restaurant, pub and family dining venues; snack and food options available 24 hours a day; and menus prepared by a registered dietician.
  • Aspire is designed to help residents experience a vital, fulfilling and well-rounded community life by providing harmony around the six dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual and environment. Through focused monthly health topics like Healthy Vision and COPD Awareness, as well as other programming, Aspire seeks to not only influence the health of existing residents but also promote greater community awareness.
  • Elements is the heartbeat of the community, promoting life engagement and brain health through opportunities for daily orientation, monthly themes and interaction in between programmed activities. Recognizing that residents have a variety of interests and talents, Elements includes a selection of tailored opportunities that are unique and next level, including Opening Minds Through Art, a Miami University-sponsored program through the school’s Scripps Gerontology Center.
  • Enclave is purposefully designed to provide enhanced and specialized services for individuals needing higher levels of care physically, cognitively and/or socially. Provided in a more intimate setting, Enclave programming includes, but is not limited to, support for early-onset dementia, diabetes management, nebulizer and oxygen management, mobility management, and catheter and ostomy care.
  • Virtue is an evidence-based program thoughtfully designed to encompass the many facets that impact the quality of life of individuals living with memory loss, including Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. The program focuses on supporting the individual and their current abilities while guiding them to build profound relationships and enjoy new experiences. Anthology’s secured neighborhoods are led by highly trained and dedicated professionals who tailor programming needs at each stage of a resident’s journey, all by providing meaning and purpose and encouraging independence.

“Anthology sets a new industry standard for the health and well-being of residents, including the more active generation of seniors who are moving into our communities,” said Carrie Traetow, executive vice president of operations for CA Senior Living. “It’s the way senior living should be, and we’re excited to scale this platform so it’s accessible to older adults living in markets across the country.”

Beyond enhancing resident care, Anthology also streamlines reporting and back-office operations through shared legal, information technology, payroll and other services. On-site teams are trained to deliver a higher level of care through extensive training and professional development, as well as access to cutting-edge tools that demonstrate CA’s commitment to tech integration across verticals.

“You can’t provide market-leading care without caring about the teams that are tasked with delivering it,” said Burke. “By investing in them, we invest in the health of our residents and, as a result, our business.”

CA Senior Living currently has 33 communities operating or under construction throughout the U.S., including 15 communities that will continue to operate with the firm’s operating partners.
