Chicago-based JDL Development announced the grand opening of SixForty North Wells, a new 250-unit luxury apartment tower in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, located on the site of the former Ed Debevic’s restaurant at the corner of Ontario and Wells streets. In celebration of the official grand opening, the 23-story building hosted a reception on Oct. 5, where guests toured two decorated models, along with two floors of indoor and outdoor amenity space.

“It’s so exciting to showcase the transformation of this popular site and officially welcome residents to luxury living at SixForty and everything River North and its neighboring communities offer,” said Yale Dieckmann, executive vice president and chief investment officer at JDL Development. “From its A-plus location and amenities to its proximity to downtown, the building is attracting a wide range of renters. It’s very fulfilling to see our vision for the building come to life and to have such positive response from renters.”

Currently 41 percent leased and 37 percent occupied, SixForty North Wells offers 22 designer floor plans in studio, convertible, and one-, two- and three-bedroom configurations that range in size from 500 to 1,600 square feet. Each unit features 9-foot 6-inch ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, stone countertops, stainless steel appliances, plank flooring, walk-in showers with frameless glass surrounds and in-unit laundry. Balconies are available in select residences. Rents range from $1,850 to $5,820.

The building offers amenities galore, including a rooftop deck where residents can enjoy a heated pool, hot tub, private cabanas with TVs and 360-degree views of downtown Chicago. Also on the 23rd floor are a demonstration kitchen, fireside library, dining suite and gaming lounge to facilitate impromptu social gatherings and entertaining. SixForty’s fifth-floor amenity deck offers even more spaces to refresh or unwind, including a professional grade fitness center; golf simulator and outdoor putting green; and a landscaped grill terrace complete with fire pits, outdoor TVs and multiple seating areas.

“With two floors of amenity space, residents have plenty of options for socializing with fellow residents or a group of friends,” said Sheila Byrne, executive vice president of property management at The Habitat Company, which manages the building. “Whether it’s taking advantage of the grills and fire pits or relaxing in the fifth-floor library after a night on the town, SixForty has everything residents want to feel at home – and then some.”

High-end apparel boutiques, up-and-coming art galleries, gourmet restaurants and see-and-be-seen nightlife spots are just steps from SixForty. The development is also surrounded by some of Chicago’s most iconic neighborhoods, including the Loop, Gold Coast and Old Town, and it’s just blocks from the storied Magnificent Mile.

For commuters, the nearby Ontario Street feeder ramp offers quick access to I-90, I-94 and I-290. Residents are a short walk from the CTA’s Brown Line and Red Line stations as well as a network of CTA bus lines.

SixForty is one of four new high-rise residential projects JDL Development is developing this year across the city, and marks the second project for JDL Development and Chicago-based The Habitat Company, which manages the property. The two firms previously partnered on 1000 South Clark, which is one of the South Loop’s premier apartment addresses that opened in 2016.
