M/I Homes of Chicago, one of the top homebuilders in the Chicagoland area, today announced it has started construction on two communities that will bring a combined 348 homes to South Elgin, Ill. Located along McLean Boulevard, north of the McLean Fen Forest Preserve and south of Spring Street, Becketts Landing and The Townes at Becketts will include 170 single-family homes and 178 townhomes, respectively.

Representatives from M/I Homes were joined by officials from the Village of South Elgin for a groundbreaking ceremony on April 18 that marked the official start of infrastructure and site work for both communities. Construction on the communities’ first homes will begin this fall, with completions and first move-ins targeted for early 2023.

“Just a few weeks after closing on the land acquisition for Becketts Landing and The Townes at Becketts earlier this spring, we’re incredibly pleased to have construction underway and look forward to more quick progress on these communities as we head into the busy summer real estate market,” said Rick Champine, area president of M/I Homes. “We had the privilege to celebrate this important milestone with representatives from the local South Elgin community, who share in our excitement to bring nearly 350 new-construction homes to one of Chicago’s most sought-after northwest suburbs. In fact, more than 600 individuals have signed up online to learn more about Becketts Landing and The Townes at Becketts since we announced the communities, indicating strong demand for new-construction options in this area.”

“To see work starting on these communities is especially meaningful for me because I previously worked for over 10 years in the Village of South Elgin’s Community Development Department,” said Marc McLaughlin, land acquisition manager for M/I Homes. “I know firsthand there are so many great reasons for buyers to choose South Elgin as their home and M/I Homes as their builder, so breaking ground on these upcoming communities is something I am proud to have accomplished. This day has been more than two years in the making, and I’m excited to see these communities moving forward.”

Pricing starts at around $350,000 for the single-family homes at Becketts Landing and $290,000 for townhomes at the Townes at Becketts. Pre-sales for both communities will kick off next month at a June 2 first-look event at the Elgin Country Club. Interested buyers can visit www.mihomes.com/becketts to register for the pre-sales event and learn more.

Both Becketts Landing and The Townes at Becketts will offer floor plans from M/I Homes’ Smart Series, which offers a simplified homebuying experience by bundling available floor plans with pre-selected collections of designer-chosen interior and exterior finishes.

At Becketts Landing, buyers can choose from 13 single-family designs available in a variety of elevations – including three ranch layouts – featuring partial basements and two- or three-car garages. The Townes at Becketts features 74 two-story townhomes with front-load garages and 104 three-story townhomes with rear-load garages, and buyers can choose from four floor plans to fit a wide variety of lifestyles and needs.

The two communities are convenient to the riverfront downtown districts of South Elgin and Elgin as well as downtown Geneva and St. Charles, offering residents access to a variety of shopping, dining and entertainment options. Nearby recreational offerings include the Fox River Trail for walking and biking along the Fox River, as well as the Blackhawk County Forest Preserve and Jon J Duerr Forest Preserve.

Homes at all M/I Homes communities come standard with a comprehensive 10-year structural warranty, which not only allows buyers to purchase with confidence, but also adds value if the home is sold in the future. All homes are also WHOLE HOME Certified, an M/I Homes designation indicating the builder’s superior approach when constructing homes. Upon testing, an M/I home will receive a more favorable HERS (Home Energy Rating System) score than an Energy Star-certified home, which can save buyers upwards of 30 percent on their energy bills. A lower HERS Index means lower energy costs, and on average an M/I home achieves a HERS rating of 62, considerably lower than other resale homes and other builders in the market.
