In total, local division of national homebuilder contributes more than $300,000 from 2025 philanthropic initiatives to Pelotonia, a national organization raising funds for cancer research

The Chicago division of M/I Homes announces it has completed and closed on the sale of its 2025 “Benefit Home” in Plainfield, Ill., resulting in a $215,000 donation as part of the national homebuilder’s annual philanthropic program supporting Pelotonia, an organization raising funds for innovative cancer research. The local M/I Homes division raised an additional $85,000 for Pelotonia through its 2025 golf outing fundraiser, bringing its total 2025 donations to the organization to $300,000.

“As we approach the season of giving around the upcoming holidays, we are incredibly honored to have been able to use our work and industry relationships to support Pelotonia and its vital mission of fighting a disease that impacts so many of us directly or indirectly,” said Rick Champine, area president of M/I Homes. “Even more gratifying is that both the Benefit Home program and our golf outing fundraiser showcase the incredible generosity of our industry partners, whose support and participation is integral to the success of these initiatives.”

This is the fourth consecutive year M/I Homes of Chicago has participated in the Benefit Home program, in which M/I Homes’ 15 divisions across multiple geographic markets partner with contractors, vendors and suppliers to build a home at one of their local communities at a reduced cost. The homes are sold at market value, with profits donated to Pelotonia. Over the last three years, M/I Homes of Chicago has raised more than $470,000 for Pelotonia through the Benefit Home program; the donation from the 2025 home brought that local total to $685,000. Nationally, M/I Homes has raised more than $11 million for Pelotonia across its market divisions and fundraising efforts, including the Benefit Home program, which began in 2021.

Construction of the 2025 Chicago Benefit Home, located in M/I Homes’ Riverstone development in southwest suburban Plainfield, kicked off in April with a groundbreaking celebration attended by employees, trade partners and Pelotonia representatives. The Benefit Home features M/I’s popular two-story Barclay floor plan, with an open concept kitchen and family room; four bedrooms; a full basement; and attached two-car garage.

“We were confident we would lock in a buyer quickly knowing the strong appeal of Riverstone’s scenic riverfront setting and Plainfield’s terrific lifestyle, not to mention the high level of features and finishes in the Benefit Home thanks to discounts and donations from our trade partners,” noted Champine. The home went under contract this spring, at market value, to a buyer who wishes to remain anonymous.

A dedication ceremony in late October celebrated the completion of the Benefit Home, which was followed by its financial closing and finalization of the donation amount to Pelotonia.

M/I Homes of Chicago’s 2025 golf outing was held July 21 at Elgin Country Club in Elgin, Ill. The event drew 150 attendees including M/I Homes employees and vendor trade partners.

Since 2019, M/I Homes of Chicago’s lifetime donation total to Pelotonia is $1.1 million, including 2025 contributions from the Benefit Home and golf outing.

The multi-year relationship between M/I Homes and Pelotonia stems from the two national organizations’ shared roots in Columbus, Ohio, where both are headquartered. Additionally, M/I Homes President and CEO Robert Schottenstein sits on Pelotonia’s board of directors.
