Related Midwest is proud to announce Sarah Wick, a vice president who helps lead the firm’s affordable housing business, has been named to Crain’s Chicago Business’ 2019 Class of 40 Under 40. Honoring proven leaders with substantial business and civic contributions, this year’s awards were presented today at a breakfast held at The Dalcy Event Hall in the Fulton Market District.
Since joining Related Midwest, Wick has been instrumental in managing the financing, acquisition and development of 3,800 affordable residences throughout Chicago and the Midwest, representing a total investment of approximately $660 million. Wick is currently spearheading the revitalization of Lathrop, a multi-year, multi-phase project that is transforming the historic property into a vibrant mixed-use, mixed-income community. Under her management, the first phase of the renovation was successfully completed in summer 2019, delivering 414 market rate, affordable and subsidized units, along with a revitalized park and riverwalk.
“Sarah is a visionary real estate leader who is incredibly deserving of this honor,” said Curt Bailey, president of Related Midwest. “Her passion for preserving affordable housing has not only had a measurable impact on Chicago’s urban landscape, but on the people in the communities in which she works. Sarah’s efforts to engage with stakeholders have resulted in strengthening the neighborhoods we serve and in helping all income groups feel at home.”
Wick joined Related Midwest after working as a project manager at The Community Builders Inc. and Jonathan Rose Companies, where she successfully helped finance and manage tenant-in-place renovations in Chicago, New York City and suburban New York.
An active member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), Wick serves on the ULI Chicago Women’s Leadership Initiative’s executive board and is a past protégé of the ULI Chicago Mentorship Program. Additionally, she participates in policy forums and panels focused on transit-oriented development initiatives, including Developer Dialogues with the Regional Transportation Authority of Chicago. Wick, a ULI Young Visionary Award winner, was recently honored as a winner of the ULI Women’s Leadership Initiative Achievement Award Scholarship.
Wick holds a master’s degree in regional and urban planning from the Pratt Institute and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
